Ron Phelps grew up in Southern California and was introduced to drag racing in the 50’s and 60’s. Ron served in the U.S. Navy as a Machinist Mate 1st class. He was honorably discharged at the end of his enlistment in 1975 and began a career as a Power Plant operator with the County of Los Angeles. His interest in fast cars remained and when the opportunity presented itself in 1996, Ron purchased a 1953 Studebaker with a history of running at both Bonneville and at the Dry Lakes. In 1998 Ron joined the SCTA and soon had his Studebaker back at the Dry Lakes. As a current member of the Gear Grinders, Ron remains active in the Southern California Timing Association. Ron recently retired from the County of Los Angeles and is now able to spend his time helping his son with MRP Motor Sports. As a racing enthusiast and with the experience he has gained as a race car owner and driver, Ron is committed to providing quality lubricants, racing fuels, and car care products to his fellow racers and enthusiasts at affordable prices.
